Dr. Hadi M. Khazaei

Chief Medical Scientist

Dr. Hadi M. Khazaei is the founder and Chief Medical Scientist of Athreya MedTech, driving the vision of AI-assisted ophthalmic diagnostics from conception toward clinical use. With training at Harvard Medical School, NIH, OHSU (MCR, 2021), and a Visiting Professorship at Portland State University, Dr. Hadi brings a rare combination of clinical depth, research methodology expertise, and systems thinking to the MERIT AI project. His AIID framework — Application, Implementation, Integration, Dissemination — defines Athreya's translational research philosophy. He leads the Digital Ophthalmology Dialogues training series and oversees all research partnerships within the consortium, including NIH SBIR grant development. His work spans orbital ultrasonography, thyroid eye disease, tear proteomics, ocular oncology, and AI-assisted analysis of ocular ultrasound. Collaborations and Advisory. Dr. Khazaei serves in an advisory capacity with Snorkel AI, contributing ophthalmic imaging expertise to its research programme. Athreya MedTech's work on automated report generation for ocular ultrasound is being developed in collaboration with Snorkel AI's data-centric AI platform. He is a Visiting Professor at Portland State University and works with clinical and academic partners in India and the United States on the validation of ophthalmic AI.
